Late Edition

A moon, a cloud and the print that went to the framer at A2.

Crescent moon hanging in a dark starry sky above a thin band of cloud
Photograph by Pascal Debrunner

Long exposures, a cold tripod and the one cloud that refused to leave. I kept it. Without the cloud the moon has nothing to hang on.

Astrophotographers would have waited for the cloud to pass. I am not one, and the cloud is the picture.

The print

Night skies print badly on most paper; the blacks go grey and the stars go soft. This one went on a matte cotton rag and came back the way it looked from the hill.

Crescent moon in a black night sky
The moon in January, cloudless, which is a different picture and a colder one. Photograph by Xavier McLaren.

It hangs in the hall of the house where it was taken, opposite the window it was taken from. On a clear night you can compare.
