Coastal cliffs and a natural sea arch glowing at golden hour above rocky tide pools

Where the Cliffs Break

The arch is a twenty minute scramble from the road and worth every scraped knee. I waited for the sun to come round the headland, and when it did the whole face of the cliff turned the colour of a peach.

Tide pools

The pools below are the real subject. At low tide they hold the sky, and for a few minutes the rock, the water and the light are one surface.

Three visits, one keeper. The first was cloudy, the second I arrived late, and the third the tide, the sun and the wind agreed for a quarter of an hour.

The coast here is soft rock and hard weather; the arch will be a stack within my lifetime. That is not a reason to hurry. It is a reason to go back.
